Dooky Chase Restaurant in New Orleans, Serving More Than Culinary Art

Dooky Chase's Restaurant, exterior shot, but check out the interior photos below!

I have done several posts on Dooky Chase's restaurant in New Orleans historic African American Treme neighborhood. I’ve described its fantastic Creole de Colour soul food and the role it played as a meeting place for civil rights activist. The heart soul of the restaurant since the 1940s, Leah Chase made her down home place into an incredible art gallery over the years pleasing to one's stomach and eyes. Over the years the walls of Dooky Chase have been decorated with the works of notable African American artist such as John Scott, Elizabeth Catlett, Bruce Brice, John Biggers, and Charles Simms. Below are portraits found in the dinning spaces within the restaurant so you can a taste of the restaurants wonderful aesthetics. As you can see, from the exterior of the restaurant you would have no idea of just how much this place is a diamond in the rough. Just remember its open for breakfast and lunch only closing about 6pm.
