Marist College will again participate in the Poughkeepsie Public Library District's Big Read program. The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment of the Arts, in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest. It is designed to encourage literacy and restore reading to the center of American culture by providing communities with the opportunity to read and discuss a single book. On Thursday, October 8, at 10:00 a.m. history professors Sara Dwyer-McNulty, Steve Garabedian, and Frederick Douglass Opie will explore the concept of respectability in “Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurston. Opie’s talk will focus on food, masculinity, and respectability in the book. For more information on the Big Read visit www.poklib.org.
